Sustainable sourcing is a priority that spans both the People and Planet pillars of the Orora Sustainability Framework.
Sustainable fibre sourcing
Orora recognises the significant impact of illegal logging and other controversial sources of wood fibre on the global economy, society and the environment. Under Orora's Sustainable Fibre Sourcing Policy, all virgin and reclaimed fibres used in the manufacture of paper and board products in our Australian, New Zealand and North American operations must be sourced from socially and environmentally-responsible sources.
The Policy is supported by Orora’s Sustainable Fibre Sourcing Due Diligence Framework. The Framework aligns with regulatory requirements of such legal instruments as the European Commission’s Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (FLEGT) Action Plan 2003 and the EU Timber Regulation 2013, the US Lacey Act 1900 (amended 2008), and the Australian Illegal Logging Prohibition Act 2012, as well as the risk assessment requirement of the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®), Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) and Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI) standards.
Forest Chain of Custody Certification is the natural next step to ensure that not only our raw materials, but also our finished paper and board products maintain transparency and traceability to ethical and responsible sources of fibre, providing our customers with peace of mind about where our products come from – from the forest to the end consumer.
Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain of Custody
Orora has Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) Chain of Custody Certification at its B9 paper mill at Botany, Australia (FSC-C113466).
Orora also has FSC® Chain of Custody Certification in its cartons business in Australia and New Zealand (FSC-C127957).
The FSC® Chain of Custody Standard supports responsible forestry practices and ensures transparency and traceability in the fibre supply chain.*
*Only products made from FSC® certified fibre at FSC® Chain of Custody Certified sites can carry the FSC® Claim. Please ask your Orora Account Manager for more information.
Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI)
Under the SFI® standards, to bear the SFI® label, there must be an auditable procurement process in place to ensure all fibre comes from responsible and legal sources.
* Please ask your Orora Account Manager for more information.
Supplier Ethical Data Exchange (SEDEX)
The Supplier Ethical Data Exchange (Sedex) is a not-for-profit membership organisation dedicated to driving improvements in ethical and responsible business practices in global supply chains.
Orora’s Australasian manufacturing operations is a member of Sedex, which enables sharing of information on four key pillars: health and safety, labour standards, business ethics and the environment.
